General information [contribute]

George Kaye Audio Labs website (May 2002): Welcome to George Kaye Audio Labs, Inc. I'm George Kaye.

We are dedicated to being the best HIGH END service and modification center in the world specializing in vacuum tube audio equipment. We have serviced the finest audio equipment and in doing so have gathered information and created a design philosophy that can be applied to repairing and improving your treasured gear.

My training started at the age of 5 when I started lighting up vacuum tubes in my dad's HAM (amateur radio) shack. I attended Renselaer Polytechnic Institute and also became a musician. I came by my music abilities honestly, my grandmother won the first scholarship to Julliard for voice and became a well known NY operatic singer who later worked in vaudeville with my grandfather a magnificent bass. I am a Jazz bassist and worked with Houston Person & Etta Jones from 1997-2001. I am fortunate to perform in New York with some of the best jazz people around. I get to tune my ears all the time.

I also built and own with my partner, Jimmy Madison (one of the all time great jazz drummers in the world), a 16 track recording studio called Garden Productions in Manhattan. We are fortunate to record some of the biggest name in jazz.

Over the years I've freelanced in music and electronics. I joined New York Audio Labs In 1983, worked extensively with the Julius Futterman OTL amplifier and soon developed the Moscode Hybrid line of electronics. I left NYAL and started Sound Services which became Classic Audio, Ltd. and is now George Kaye Audio Labs, Inc. Our corporate clients include:

Why am I telling you this? Is it more than you want to know? Maybe, but I feel you should know something about whom you do business. We have all seen audio companies come and go and I think growing through 14+ years says something for our perseverence and the satisfaction of our customers. We have grown because we are deeply committed to quality work and real value.

Our upgrades are well worth your investment in time and money because they yield results that would cost many times the investment in new or used gear.We have taken the liberty of printing comments from some of our customer that have written us. Many others have called to express their satisfaction n the phone. To them we say thank you.I invite you to try our services.

I think you will be very satisfied with the results. Thank you, George Kaye

Repair, upgrade or new?

We feel that the the most cost effective way to upgrade your system is to modify good quality existing equipment. Many of the existing designs have excellent quality base components-chassis, heat sinks, power transformers, output transistors, controls, switches etc. Most of these parts won't deteriorate with time and perform exactly as they did brand new, sometimes even better. The cost of these components is usuall 75% of the production cost of and amplifer. So why pay for a complete new set of metalwork? By changing the basic driver circuit or the "brain " of the amplifier we can give the amplifier a totally new character free from the limitations of an out-dated design. We leave the body intact and perform a sort of "brain transplant".

When does this not make sense? If you are one of those individuals with money to burn or feel you just have to have a whole new wardrobe or you are undergoing a change of life and money is no object then go ahead-drop$5,000, $10,000 or more on a whole new system. You deserve it!

Repairs / Services

If you have a treasured peice that has served you well over the years and you feel it just needs some restoration or repair, then it is worthwhile to call us for a consultation to determine if it is better to fix, upgrade or sell. Our policy is to use the highest grade components where possible and maintain the highest standards of quality control. If you are dissatisfied with anyones "factory" service-call us. We service and modify tube equipment by Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, Counterpoint, McCintosh, Quicksilver, Bedini, B&K and other fine manufacturers. Call us for more information.

Custom upgrades and mods

Take advantage of our engineering abilities to enhance special equipment. We can design everything from chassis to circuit boards to building and testing. We feature outboard power supplies for MOSCODE, HAFLER and other fine amplifiers. We do custom cosmetic upgrades for Futterman OTL1's which consist of 1/2 thick faceplates, custom finishing of handles and knobs. Metal finishing is done by the same people who supply Madrigal (Mark Leninson), Krell, and Cello.

Used equipments

We buy and sell selected used equipment to restore or renovate. All used equipment is fully tested and repaired to meet or surpass original specifications and audible performance standards. We offer a guarantee on most equipment.

George Kaye.
