DSS Power Line Filter Technology

A general circuit is often distorted by interference frequencies with strong amplitudes up to 300 MHZ. Apart from short-term interferences (cracking), there are also permanent interference in the net that persist. A permanent interference always occurs if the impulse of interference lasts longer than 200 ms (DIN VDE 0875). These permanent interferences are not only caused by household appliance, dimmers etc. but also to a large extent by TV, HIFI- and digital equipments such as CD-players. Here, the impulses of net interference are in particular modulated by the control elements of semiconductors .

Such permanent impulses of interference are spread at ungrounded sources of interference as well as at sources of interference at protective conductors. DSS-Power Line filters are conceived in a manner that they are able to filter push-pull interference as well as push-push interference without any loss of dynamics. . Unfortunately, the originally purely sine-shaped Sine of 50 Hz as received by power plants is being strongly deformed by numerous households and consumers. Interfering currents enter into the net by control circuits of these numerous different consumers. In addition, our electric circuit reacts like a huge aerial which picks up and transmits many different kinds of electro-magnetic radiation. This results in a broadband spectrum of interference which can only be fought off by freeing still existing sine of 5O HZ from the overlapping pollutions.

For HIFI usage it is of utmost importance to develop a filter system that is characterised by a very low reactance. At this stage, DSS employs its own cost-intensive technology which is not being used with traditional HIFI-power line systems. Already at 50 HZ, a soft filtering procedure enters into action which slows down and softens the sine of 5o Hz which interferes with the circuit in acute waves. By means of this procedure alone, the sound is improved in a considerable manner, and the factor of cracking noise and jetter of the source appliance is reduced to a large extent. A symmetrically arranged overload protective device is integrated at the entrance of the filter system, which protects the subsequent power line electronic and off-end appliance against enormous peak currents. Further filter stations provide effective cleansing off low and high frequencies to prevent these from entering the components which are to be put in operation. At the exit of the filter system, a separate module provides a high-quality retroactive damping effect for filtering the interference voltage produced by the off-end appliance itself. This measure prevents push-pull interference between the individual components.

HIFI components require a clean supply of electricity as a basis for precise processing of signals. High-quality equipments, in particular, react in a very sensitive manner upon any interference of the circuit which impedes to make most out of the large potential of the expensive equipment. Only optimal conditions of operation can guarantee a relief of work in all appliances.

When using power line filter techniques it should be generally observed that only one source appliance is being cleaned by one filter as otherwise resonant circuits will be produced between the appliances which again will influence each other in a negative way so that the power line filter system will no longer be able to work in an accurate way. It becomes evident that highly developed High-End power line filters are designed not only for cleaning and softening the external flow of circuit, but also for filtering the pollution produced by the operation of any HIFI equipment in order to prevent these from re-entering into the circuit.
