General information [contribute]

James Wong (June 26, 2009): Taken from unknown magazine November 1996: May Audio, UK distributor for Sequence, Jecklin, Precide, Reference Recordings and Opus 3 among others, has formed a new division, Audio Gem, with the specific aim of producing high quality loudspeakers which represent excellent value for money.

Drawing on many years of design experience, its development team has looked to reflex loading and quarter-wave techniques in developing its first two models: the stand-mounted Opal and slim, floor-standing Emerald.

Both are two-way types and have in common the same Vita 140mm bass/midrange driver and Peerless soft-dome 19mm tweeter. Both also exhibit a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of 88dB/VV/m. The Opal has a frequency range of 50Hz-20kHz while the Emerald extends this down to 35Hz. Both are available in a textured black paint finish or, for a small extra premium, in real wood veneers of golden cherry or walnut: the Opal is £240/0260 and the Emerald £540/2570.
