General information [contribute]

Aspen Speaker web site (December 9, 2009): elcome to the home page of the Aspen Speaker Company. We are a small manufacturer based in Aspen, Colorado, who build some of the finest home loudspeakers in the world. We offer our products factory-direct so that we can provide the latest and best technology to you at reasonable prices. By distributing over the internet we can save you 30 to 50% of what you would have paid at the typical "bricks-and-mortar" retail shop.

We build our speakers using classic, elegant designs and the highest craftsmanship and technologies. We examine every single component and design idea that goes into our speakers and innovate wherever there is room for improvement over traditional methods and materials. Through extensive listening tests, we carefully decide which parts and materials make an audible difference in the final product and then use only the best. The end result is a line of loudspeakers that is truly state-of-the-art in many ways, and is an excellent value.

We are so certain that you will like our speakers, and want to keep them, that we offer a buyer protection program that is second to none. We back up our products with a ten-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and if you are dissatisfied for any reason after purchase we offer a full refund, including return shipping costs, for sixty days after delivery! So, in other words, you have nothing to risk (except, at most, shipping cost to your home) by trying our speakers in your home with your system.

As you know, there are many choices available today when you are shopping for high quality speakers for your stereo or multichannel system. We don't try to be all things to all people by offering dozens of different products, all using the standard design approaches. Instead, we focus on building only a few models to satisfy the most discriminating audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts.

If you're like us, you haven't been completely happy with the performance of normal loudspeakers. Whether using dynamic-cone, electrostatic, planar-magnetic or other conventional technologies, they all have serious drawbacks that constantly remind you that you are listening to a mechanical device attempting to reproduce real music. What may initially sound impressive in the showroom later exposes itself as lacking in the subtle ability to portray the emotional content of a live performance. The goosebumps you get and those little chills that run up and down your spine when you hear a great live performance are somehow missing, even though your current loudspeakers may have been declared to be "technically perfect".

The search for better technology has motivated us to create a truly superior way to reproduce music. We have spent the last ten years developing a new kind of speaker driver which is able to bridge that last gap between the usual, "just ok" level of performance, and one that delivers the spine-tingling, emotional excitement of the real thing. Our new midrange-tweeter driver behaves as a true point-source from the mid-bass up to and beyond the highest audible frequencies, resulting in dramatic improvements in clarity, dynamics and imaging over conventional drivers.

The best way to describe the sound of our speakers using this new driver is to imagine the delicacy, finesse and spaciousness of the best electrostatics combined with the dynamics, clarity and loudness capability of the best horn designs. When properly placed in the listening room, our speakers produce a phenomenal soundstage with imaging that is beyond holographic. In fact, many people have told us that our speakers image better than any other speaker they have ever heard, regardless of price!

Of course, a rational person will wonder "if this new technology is so great, how come I have never heard of it before?". Good question, simple answer: we are presenting this technology to the market right now, for the first time. Next question: "why haven't the big manufacturers developed this technology before now?". It is because they can't. We hold a number of U.S. patents (others pending) on this technology, and it is available only from the Aspen Speaker Company. Final question: "well, who has heard these speakers?". We have previewed our prototypes to a number of well-known industry professionals during the fine-tuning process (but they will have to remain nameless for now!).

The public debut of our model SE-10K speaker was at the October 16th Open House of Welborne Labs in Denver, Colorado. Thank you to all who attended, and please check back in a few days for more details on the show. By the way, if you can possibly get a chance to hear Welborne's amps and pre-amps then you owe it to yourself to make the effort. They are among the very best available at any price. And they work extremely well with our loudspeakers. The sound of his Moondog 2A3 monoblocks with the new KR tubes was out of this world!

All of our speakers feature high efficiency and a high and stable impedance, making them an ideal match with any kind of amplifier including single-ended triode tubes. We use the highest quality driver and crossover components, such as Kevlar cones, film-and-foil capacitors, large-gauge air-core inductors and Cardas binding posts. Our cabinets are built locally using a variety of real wood finishes with solid wood edges and corners, with every pair hand-crafted for each customer's order.
