General information [contribute]

ATC web site (December 2003): ATC, Acoustic Transducer Company, is a specialist British manufacturer of loudspeaker drive units and complete sound reproduction systems, including the relevant electronic equipment. ATC designs and manufactures loudspeaker drive units and systems to achieve levels of performance far in excess of the industry norm, this is achieved by adopting a thoroughly professional engineering approach to the issue of basic design, materials science and production technology. Situated in the Cotswolds,ATC has a highly skilled production team who build ATC components and systems mostly by hand in order to achieve the highest levels of precision and performance. Classically vertically integrated, ATC is in total control of all steps in the design and manufacturing process and is therefore able not only to operate with a high degree of consistency but a degree of flexibility that gives the company tremendous scope to work with designers and specifiers in a manner that best suits their own work practices. ATC has in-house acoustic skills and is able to design sound systems of known and predictable performance for a project whether at the drawing board stage, or as a system for installation into an existing environment in which case a full acoustic analysis may be carried out.

History[contribute]

ATC web site (December 2003): High up on Aston Down in the heart of beautiful rural Gloucestershire is a small group of buildings that is home to ATC, Loudspeaker Technology Limited. It is here that acoustics engineer and professional musician, Bill Woodman, decided to move in 1985 to escape the rigours of London where he had founded ATC 11 years earlier in 1974. The company had originally been created to allow Woodman to develop a mid-range drive unit capable of reproducing acoustic music more convincingly than any other. Since moving to the more tranquil and creative surroundings of the Cotswolds, the ATC range of products has expanded considerably, yet still the company's philosophy remains unchanged.
