what is this timer used for are there any advantages if I were to use this with either my home theater or pro sound.

I use mine to turn the receiver and tape recorder on/off to record programs at night for listening to later. Other than that I don't know what they would be good for. The outlet wattage rating is limited to around 500-550 watts.

In addition to what Steve said, if you wish to conserve power and instead of flipping the switches on your components, this is a good way to maintain your equipment without abusing the buttons.

it is great if you plan to fall asleep to a movie or music. it may not seem like a justified investment. but with today's powerful home systems and the cost of power, it will pay for itself in the long run.
