A history

Headphones date from the beginnings of the history of the telephone and the radio. The weak electrical signals of the early instruments were enough to operate only headphones audibly.

What follows is a brief history of Beyerdynamics, the company that build the first Dynamic headphone.

Eugen Beyer founded Beyer Dynamic dynamic in Berlin in 1924. Using simple means he and his team developed high-quality products that were ahead of their time and proved to be milestones in electro acoustics. In 1926 Eugen Beyer developed and constructed the first amplifiers and loudspeakers for the upcoming films with sound in Berlin. The first dynamic headphone, the DT 48, was developed in 1937and served as a basis for one of the most successful international companies in the audio world. The M 19 b dynamic microphone also made history. It was the first dynamic microphone that achieved studio quality and was used by many radio and TV stations in the thirties.In 1945 the factory and machines were destroyed in Berlin, Eugen Beyer left and went to Heilbronn where he rebuilt his company.

1937 World's first dynamic headphones, the Beyerdynamic DT 48 which are still in production today!

1953 A revolutionary development for record shops: the Beyerdynamic DT 49 "stick" headphone gave rise to the famous disc bars.

1962 TheBeyerdynamic "transistophone", the first wireless microphone goes into production.

1973 Development and production of the Beyerdynamic DT 204 quadrophonic headphones.

1976 Introduction of the Beyerdynamic ET 1000, the first electrostatic headphones developed and manufactured in Germany.

1980 A sensational new development, the Beyerdynamic DT 880 dynamic headphones breaks with traditions. For the first time it is possible to produce dynamic headphones with electrostatic performance.

1985 The new Beyerdynamic DT 770 and DT 990 headphones which feature a so-called "diffuse-field equalized" frequency response are suited not only for audiophiles but serve also as a control instrument.

1987The world's first Hi-Fi headphone, the BeyerdynamicDT 48 celebrates 50 years in production.

1988 The exclusive headset used at the Olympic Games in Seoul/Korea is the Beyerdynamic DT 108/DT 109.

1995 At the International Music Fair in Frankfurt, the Beyerdynamic U 600 is presented, beyerdynamic's first PLL synthesised UHF wireless system. Designed to meet the demands of professional broadcasters the DT 200 series of headsets is introduced. The DT 531 Hi-Fi headphone is awarded the Diapason d'Or in France.
